Hooking up an MPC1000 with Max/MSP

Hello everyone

I would really like to put my MPC to good use as its been sitting around the house for too long. I would like to use it in conjunction with Max/MSP which I use a lot.

Unfortunately I don't seem to be getting any info via MIDI. I was wondering if something needs to be configured on the MPC to output the data?

Also, I presume I will be able to have access to the data from most if not all of the controls?

i experimented a little bit with this back in the day, tho i was sending midi data TO the MPC from Max, not vice-versa.

all you will be able to receive in Max will be whatever MIDI data the MPC transmits. make sure you set your MIDI output channel on the MPC and make sure Max is listening to the same channel.

pads will output midi notes & aftertouch. sliders can output midi CC's (at least in the JJ OS they can), and of course a sequence recorded on the MPC can spit out NOTE & CC data. you can also receive PROGRAM change data & the sequencer transport actions (START, STOP, etc.)

check your AKAI & Max manuals & your MIDI interface. it will take a little trial & error but eventually you will get them talking to one another.
