OOPS!!

I haven't recieved my MPC1000 yet and I just realized that the great deal I got on eBay is the blue model with the crappy pads (from what I've read). I found the pad upgrade kit here http://www.mpcstuff.com/akai--mpc-1000-pad-set--new-version-pad-fix-upg.html. I'm waiting for a response to find out if it is still available. I hope it is. Has anybody done the upgrade? This will still turn out to be a good deal, even with shelling out additional $$$$.

first off, it depends on what you paid for the MPC that would decide if its a great deal or not. Second, the pad upgrade is usually on backorder but from what i understand it is still for sale.

Well, a new one is going for $1K right? My grand total including the MPC, shipping and the pad upgrade kit would be just under $550. Sounds like a great deal to me...

That is a good deal, might have to wait a few months for the pad fix tho... I've had my second hand bluey for most of this year and my pads haven't given me any trouble yet

Yep, they said 6-8 weeks. It's all good though.

Add up to 120 £ for the updates to JJOS 2 and it's a good deal.
I had mine (black one) for 320 Pounds, plus I paid for JJos, not bad if you consider that here it is around 700 Pounds

Yeah, I'll probably go with JJOS 2. I read somewhere that the original Akai OS doesn't allow you to chop samples. Is that true?

Akai OS in general is just horrible. The fact that it converts chops to MONO is unforgivable to me.

Call me crazy but... I actually don't have a problem with the Akai OS

Try the JJOS for a couple of days (not even that long!!!) and lets see if you change your mind. Its not that the akai OS is that terrible, its just terrible compared to JJOS. I would have probably sold my 1000 if JJOS didnt exist. NO BS!!! There are just too many enhancements in chopping, sequencing, and overall speed/workflow. 1000 w/ pad fix + JJOS= complete machine.

Well, got my MPC1000 yesterday and I'm very pleased so far. It's in almost brand new condition and the pads feel good. I'm wondering if the previous owner did the pad upgrade already. Either that or it just hadn't been used a lot. I'll have to go to Guitar Center and play around with the 1000BK model and see if there's a difference. I do know for a fact that it has the Akai OS. I'll eventually upgrade to JJos. I had a hard time getting it to quantize at first. Usually, drum machines come out of the box set to quantize automatically (well, back in the day they did). With this, I had to adjust the note values, just like the sequencer in my Korg TR. No biggy. I've been programming drum machines since 1984 and never met one I couldn't master. That 808 was something different though...LOL. Let me shut up, I'm showing my age.
