a guideline for someone just opening up the mpc-1000....

yo, what's up people? what should be a guideline for someone just getting the mpc-1000 into their house ? what did you guys 1st do when you got it that you wish someone would've told you before hand? me? i'm reading my manual and tinkering with it....picked up some more memory before i even went home to check was it there yet....thats something i picked up from here, this forum...thank God for this place man, it's value to me is incredible...
i already had downloaded a copy of the mpc1000 program creator from midicase.com....not sure if i'm ready to play with that yet or even what it DOES....and i downloaded a copy of audacity from download.com...this is all stuff that i picked up from here, once again...just feel free to jump in and let other people know what you did.wish you knew about doing when you opened up that blue box....peace

When editing a sample highlight either the start or end point numbers. Press shift and left arrow key to move the cursor a few spaces. Now use that jog wheel to trim. It will be a lot faster now. When I first got my MPC it took me damn near a 1/2 hour or more to trim a sample because I didn't know that shit! My arm was sore!

lol.. i was using the numeric key and did trial and error til it looped right for a few days before i worked out the shift thing lol Not as bad as urs but jeez.. urs musta been a good workout lol..

I powered mine up and the screen was dark and you couldn't make out any of the text. I panicked until I realised it was just the contrast on the screen. Braindead stuff, man.

After that, it's been plain sailing. Had the 1k a month today and only get about 4-5 hours a week on it, yet have put together 6 or 7 skeleton beats that I'm really happy with so far. I've never used an MPC before but I've found it mad easy to learn how to make it do what I want.

I read the manual solidly for a couple of months before I bought it, and the first beat I did I kept really simple (some Blind Alley and stuff) and just tried to learn one thing at a time.
