Hi guys,
I could really do with everyones opinion on whats going on with my mpc 1000, Please bear with me while I explain whats going on! lol
Basically, I bought the mpc about a year ago and at the same time got a 2GB Sandisk Ultra CF card & an unofficial (think it was kingston) 256mb RAM stick (to save money on buying akais), Im using Akai's latest OS.. Whenever I make a beat I sample a record or whatever first of all & then load which ever drum samples, etc that I want to use over it, when it comes to saving it I always select the "save all" function & then save it to its own folder..
Usually everything goes fine & saves ok (even though sumtimes after saving a mesage comes up saying create error or sumthing like that) then I turn the machine off & load the project & everythings how I left it, just like it should be...
However.. Sometimes I can follow the same procedure but when i load the project back up files are missing, beats and samples seem to vanish, usually from around pad 11 onwards are just gone & there physically not there, if i press mode & pad 7 to go into the program & press a pad that has a missing sample it says "?Sample01" or whatever the sample was called with a"?" before it, its as if it deletes itself??
Sumtimes I can even save it ok, reload it ok, but then leave it alone & come to use it again a few days later & there gone... Its horrifing!! Im scared to death of turning the machine off! I originally thought it was the CF card so stopped using the 2gb one and stuck with the 128 card that came with the machine...I never seemed to have the problem with that card but then recently *thinking my 2gb sandisk card was faulty) bought another Sandisk 2GB Extreme CF Card & the problem has started all over again!
It cant possibly be 2 faulty cards can it?? I bought them both brand new & have heard good things about those cards on this forum (the reason why i bought them) I just dont know what to do?? My 12 month warranty is up on the machine now so cant swap it, Ive tried reinstalling the OS with no luck, could it be the RAM?? Is it worth giving the JJ OS a go?? (even tho I cant seem to get on with it!) Im really sorry for the essay guys but just thought Id explain in detail.. My babies poorly & got nowhere else to turn :0(, ANY advice would be great, Thanks in advance,

Yes, change the memory to 128mb (there are posts here to make sure you get the right one).

I really would recommend giving JJOS it a try. I have had files go missing in AKAI OS.

thanks guys for the advice, I decided to install the JJ OS last night and give that a go for a bit (The free version), I have wondered if it could be the RAM, the only reason its a 256 stick is because its double sided and I was told (or read somewhere) that the mpc only reads one side of the ram stick so half of 256 shows up as 128..If that makes any sense. Im really hoping that the JJ OS will fix my problem cos its driving me mad now! Can any of you imagine what its like spending hours on a wicked beat and then have the fear of when you turn the machine off it might not be there when you turn it back on! I hope none of you have to go thru it! lol
Ill let you know how I get on.. gunna make a load of "dummy" beats and see what happens when I save them..
cheers guys

To fix the saving/loading problem homie, you HAVE TO format all your media (CF & hard drive) using the JJOS. Established fact---- don't waste any more time, backup and do it now. You'll thank us later.
