How do you track different sounds on mpc using motif module

I know how to connect the hardware between the two but I am having trouble making a beat. I can record a motif sound on one track, but i am having trouble choosing a sound for a different track without changing the first sound. What am i suppose to change? My first motif sound is on 1A, but when i change to 2A there is no sound and if I keep it on 1A then i change the sound of the first track. BAsically how do you create seperate tracks for the modulator sounds on the mpc. Do i change the No. 1,2....... or the 1A, 2A.............what the **** is going on!
