deleting factory sounds

I can't remember how I deleted all the sounds from my mpc, I think I did a format on the internal and then turned the machine off just as it got to 99 percent done. does that sound about right?

I'm trying to advice someone else on how to do it.

the internal sounds? If I rememeber right you can overwrite them with something blank but you cant delete them.

yeah i tink if you just make a few programs of ya fav kits and sequence lengths tempo etc
then save entire memory hit auto load folder
it will then auto load those programs/sequences when you turn on the unit and you will be ready to roll
the default soundsets won't be in the way

well all are all totally gone from mine an I def didn't do the save trick! I wish I remembered how I did it just cos it bugs me when I forget how to do something. I'm sure I did format then hit the power button on the mpc when it was at 99 percent.

some guy told me the trick but I don't think he/it was on these forums.

ok I'm pretty sure I remembered for anyone interested. If you want a totally blank mpc 1k just make sure you save all the sounds seq's progs etc that you want onto your computer or cf card, take out your cf card just to be on the safe side, then do save all, then as it gets to 98 or 99 % complete quickly hit the mains power switch. when you turn your mpc back on it'll be blank. can anyone vouch for me?

or you could just do it the easy way and do what other people have said bu I like to do something different.

no one mentioned it maybe because thats not the correct way.

whats not correct about it? whats less correct than your way? why is your way more correct? what is correct?

the answer to the original question can be found in the link i posted... i never heard about that 99% thing... and it doesn't really sound possible since you can't save the entire memory to the internal memory either way... you can only save to internal memory when you select "all programs". so just trim a blank sample down to .0000000001 and assign it to pad and then save all programs to the internal memory [assuming you don't have anything else loaded and started fresh]... or save some actual sounds you wanna use if you prefer that... either way, with autoload turned off they won't take up ram.

I did some hunting on the other forums and got the answers.

The tricking the MPC thing works! Credit to the guy on mpcforums.com.

Go to SAVE mode. Save to INTERNAL MEMORY and before it saves anything, the MPC actually erases the internal memory.
Power it off right when it is right at 99% or right before it starts saving. I had to do it a couple of times before I got it right.

Make sure you have a good number of files in Internal Memory so when it erases, the percentage number moves slow and you can watch for the 99%.

So yeah do that process twice for:

SAVE ALL PROGRAMS AND SAMPLES
SAVE ALL SEQS AND SONGS

You will have a clean, blank MPC 1000.
