None of my pads work? wtf?

So I just received a used MPC 1000 in the mail... I've never used an MPC before, but for the love of god I've been trying to get going for the past hour and I can't seem to figure out what's wrong... None of my pads seem to be working? I press MODE and then a PAD and NOTHING HAPPENS. This seems like I'm doing something very stupid but could it be that all the pads are dead? Everything else works. I press a pad and nothing happens. what's going on?

EDIT: Seems as if a lot of them are dead... great. I press down really hard on a couple and sound comes out, but I mean I gotta press really hard... Could all of them been damaged in the mail or what? the box wasn't visibly damaged at all, but the packing seemed pretty bad on the inside. Bought it on ebay by the way, it was advertised that everything was 100% working. now what? paid ~430...

I'd contact the Ebay Seller ASAP and tell him what the **** up

the old mpc pads were known to break after use- just like youve described. you need the new pads- which are much, much better:

r u sure u did everything properly to load the samples ? did u mess with the sensitivity adjustments ? Not to be a jerk , but just make sure u did EVERYTHING in ur power to make sure it isnt operator error. then i would address the situation to the seller.

yea I did, I put full level on. i shouldnt have to jam a pad into the machine with full level on to send a signal... damn new pads are expensive... is $625 for a MPC 1000 with new pads worth it in the end basically? or should I return it?

Just for the sake of asking, how did you load your samples ? Can you walk me through what you did ( just wanna make sure you doing everything correctly ). I remember one cat on here who got his unit but couldn't figure out how to load in a sound ( no joke ) ... I told him Lampdog's fav words : read the damn manual ! He got going eventually.


Is you unit one of the older blue/red ones ?

Yea it is one of the older blue/red ones. I didn't load any sounds, I just have the factory CF card in with the premade songs and shit. I can press down really really hard on one of the pads and it will produce a sound, but a lot of the other pads wont. I will hit MODE and then hit LOAD and nothing will happen, no matter how hard I press the MODE button keeps blinking.
