BASIC QUESTION ABOUT USING SEQUENCES AND TRACKS

I just picked up my mpc 1000 and I'm curious as to the best way to work with the tracks and sequences. For example, if you are creating a drum track, would you use 1 sequence for the sole purpose of creating the drums and just put the snare on 1 track, the kick on another track, the high hat on another track etc... And then say I wanted to add a sample from a song I had chopped up, would it be best to create an entirely different sequence to record this sample over the drums?

How do you use sequences and tracks, and why do you prefer to do it the way you do?

The sequences are usually 8 bar lengths. Put all the instruments you are going to use throughout the whole song into the first sequence. Once you get all the different drum, piano, string tracks youre gonna want, proceed to copy the first sequence for the number of sequences youre gonna want (typically at least 4...intro, verse, hook, outro). Mute the instruments you dont wanna use in each sequence.

Once you get all the sequences made how you want them, go to song mode. Then just put the sequences in order.

I know this is a bit confusing, but I hope it helps.



And to answer your question... dont make a separate sequence for drum, samples etc... Put them all in the same sequence on different tracks. Then mute accordingly.
