HELP! no sound from my MPC 1000

I just recieved a used 1000 (the blue older model.) I turned it on and everything seemed normal but when I hit the pads i got no sound. This is my first MPC, so assuming i just wasnt doing something, I spent two good hours going through every menu and every page of the manual trying to find a way to get SOME sound out of the beautiful creature- to no avail. I looked through forum after forum and it doesnt seem that this is a common problem so now i am worrying that something is wrong with the hardware itself.
While going through the load screen I saw that you should be able to play the samples being loaded through that menu, but when i hit the play button, again i hear nothing.
Can anybody help me!?!?

Read the manual again concerning loading sounds and asign them to a pad.

This is basic MPC stuff....so it should be in the manual.

Ok I don't have an mpc 1000 in front of me but

i) Do you have headphones plugged in or are you using another output. Make sure whatever you're using is working ok/at a good volume level.

ii) When you load sounds, if my memory is correct you have an option to 'Play' i.e. audition the sound. (I think you need to press one of the function keys for this). Can you hear the sound then ? If you can - then its working but you need to assign the sounds to a pad (this is not done automatically - unless you're loading a PROGRAM).

iii) If you cannot hear any sound, then MAKE SURE that the sound you're trying to play is in the correct format. You need WAV files at 16/44k. You may need to load the sounds into your pc and check they're the correct format. I think there are some excellent mpc 'programs' available on this forum (i.e. correct wav files that are assigned to pads) you may want to check them out. Do a search.

p.s. Not sure if you have the AKAI OS or the JJOS - but I would definitely consider looking into JJOS (again do a search for more info).
