recording via midi

i want to track my beats out in cubase thru midi but do you have to change the midi on the mpc main screen to whatever input like 1 a and things i was watching lithions vid on maiing a midi handshake with a mid controller and he had to change the midi to 1a where he had the keyboard connected? thank you for your time.

The mpc has two MIDI inputs A and B. You must sellect which one you want to "listen" to, and also what track number. Instead you could save the MIDI file and then transfer it to the MPC. I think that's easier.
