All pads on MPC1000 just stopped working - please help

My son has an MPC1000. For no apparent reason, ALL of the pads have stopped functioning. Has anyone experienced this? I have searched older posts but have not seen any solutions for this particular problem. I am aware of the replacement pads available from Virtual Sounds Technology, in fact, I have purchsed one of the repair kits and am prepared to install it. But before I do, it seems unusual to me that all of the pads would go at the same time. Am I wrong about this?

Is there a way to reset the pads, or is there a fuse or something that might be the problem? Any help is appreciated.

ive had a simliar problem, i opened it up at the back and had a tinker with the cables (just to see if there is a lose connection), this fixed mine, but every now and then all the pads go again and i have to do the same thing..
