Greetings, my first post here. Been following the forum for quite some time tho.
I was wondering if anyone else have had the following problem with a blank screen on startup, and OS update not working? (Yes, I searched the forum extensively and found lots of similar topics but none of them answered my questions)...
Story so far:
I've been using MPC 500 for a year now, and found the MPC workflow to be nearly perfect for my needs. So I decided to upgrade to MPC 1000. Ordered it from Musikhaus Thomann Germany in December, and finally got it delivered on 30. Dec. Everything was fine for the first day, being all excited about my new baby, updated it with the free JJ OS (Ver 3.09) and had a fun night playing with all the new features I got.
BUT, then things started to **** up:
- The next day I turned my 1k on, it gave me just a blank green screen.
- SHIFT-DATAWHEEL or STOP-DATAWHEEL or any other imaginable contrast adjustment combo doesn't help.
- (Re)booting while holding ERASE (hard reset) doesn't help.
- Holding WINDOW on power up and booting to OS update mode, it can't find any OS (the day before JJ OS 3.09 worked perfectly, even after several shutdowns and powerups).
- In OS update mode, if I insert a CF card with either the latest Akai OS (2.12) or JJ OS (3.09), it show the current OS installed (3.09) and asks me if I want to overwrite it. If I choose to overwrite, it erases the flash, writes it with the new OS and says "Completed" and stops there, freezes. Same thing occurs if I choose not to overwrite the current OS and just proceed with loading the current OS. Freeze.
- Booting up in memory check mode (holding PLAY on powerup), memories check ok (all passes complete), both the internal 16mb and with the Akai 128mb expansion (which worked fine the first day and still works on my MPC 500), but after that it freezes.
- The CF cards I'm using still work fine on my MPC 500 and my WinXP PC. Even formatting them and inserting just the OS .bin file and trying the OS update procedure doesn't help either.
- I've even tried to detach the power cord for 12+ hours, didn't help (sounds like black magic anyway).
ANYONE had a similar problem, and/or can help me? Is there still something to try out before sending the 1k back for repair/replacement?
I already contacted Akai and went through the usual "did you follow the instructions" blabla thing and finally convinced them that I know what I'm doing (at least, so far, haha), and they suspected that maybe my unit has a faulty FLASH ROM or something similar. This sounds logical to me, but I'm hoping that it isn't so and I can somehow save myself from waiting for another month to get my unit repaired/replaced.
Any help would be highly appreciated! And sorry for the long post, getting anxious because of the situation...
