Amp Attack WTF??? - Strangest Little Problem----------------

I've just bought an MPC1000 (JJOS1 4.99) and I'm a little lost with this issue... I've read both Akai and JJOS manuals... but admit I may just be having a senior's moment/being daft (??)


The problem;
When I assign samples they seem to all be given a slight amp attack by the MPC. This is generally OK for instrumental loops, but it means you lose initial punch and crispyness on drums.

It's strange because when I enter Trim mode, all samples play back perfectly... nice and crisp, no attack

But back on the Main screen though, the fluffiness returns

I tried a workaround of adding silence to the sample-start, and whilst this stops the attack from reaching the drum, it has to be such an amount of time that you cannot sequence beats tightly.

I have no pad effects or global comp/eq running... This issue continues even after a reboot.

I cannot for the life of me find any global Attack setting that is switched on. But I may just be missing it.


Any advice before I think about reinstalling JJOS?

Just to update;

I could find no info on doing a clean reinstall of JJOS without installing an Akai OS, so I updated the JJOS instead.
Same problem occurs with the fresh update..

Any ideas?

OK... I found the source of the issue.

Turns out that the global attack settings are under a Filter tab.

Mode-Pad 11
>Filter (F2 key)
> ATK (should be 0)

The weird thing is that my MPC defaults to an Attack value of 9 on restart.

That is not exactly great. Does anyone else's do this?

Any ideas on how I can set that to, err... "not happen"?

I guess it is the default Program01's fault... can that default be altered? I will check the manual...

Try starting up your mpc while holding erase, if your mpc is acting funny, its the first thing to try, it resets everything to factory settings

If I recall correctly from my JJOS1 days, when you create a new program, the attack is set to 3 automatically. So either create a program with your desired parameter settings and autoload it, or manually change the attack to zero.
