Card reader problems

I bought a used 1k for 400 that needed its card reader replaced. I had it replaced, but for some reason every time I turn it off and come back later to turn it on, the screen is blank. I inspected inside where the card reader layeth and kind of gently sqeeze the wire ribbon (that is connected to the motherboard) into it's input on the card reader board. After that it works... only to do the same thing when I turn it back off and on. Contrast setting or soft reseting does not do anything and I have reason to believe that it has something to do with the card reader where it is connected to the mother board. Any takes on what else could be hindering my mpc from functioning? How can I fix this? Is this a faulty card reader that was ordered to replace the damaged one?
