Problems sampling music on mpc 1000

I would be grateful for some advice on using the Akai mpc 1000. I’m using the mpc at the moment. Im only really a beginner, some DJ terms are still new to me. But one of the uses of akai I really want to Use is the sampling. But Im having big problems. Im stuck. I basically have a 23 second sample from my cd player saved to my memory card in my mpc. I want to repeat this sample 9 or 10 times to make 3 or 4 minutes of music which I can place a vocals over. Repeating the sample I think is called looping. I think, it would be great if someone could clarify this for me.
Anyway I have tried to repeat this sample but I cannot. I have saved the sample to the memory card.
I selected the trim mode, then pressed the f 2 loop, I then selected the sample field and the sample. I couldnt find my sample. I also had trouble adjusting the loop point and hitting the pad to check the loop point. With trial and error I found the sample in the sample field. But I could not get it to loop. I know I’m doing something wrong; I have tried on the internet to find how to loop the sample. I hope I have made sense with the above description of what I did. If someone could break it down simply how to do this it would be really great.
I just cannot find any tips. I would be very grateful if anyone could give me advice on how to do this on my mpc.

you need to have the sample loaded into memory before you can edit it or use it in a track

turning it into a loop sample will mean that if you play it constantly, it will loop, but that won't actually make it play constantly, and depending on the sample it might not be necessary

to actually make a piece of music you need to create a sequence, which will include your sample repeated at various positions in the sequence. you could just trigger the sample at appropriate points in the sequence, and it doesn't necessarily need to be a loop sample to do that (maybe it does - that depends on the sample and how you want to use it)

check the manual for details on creating a sequence, but you could just assign the sample to a pad, create a sequence of the desired number of bars, and then hit record and trigger the sample at the right times.

Hello, im also new with the MPC1000, so i know what its like to get stuck in "the matrix" : ) But, if ur main goal is to loop a sample, its alot easier just to do it on ur computer. Unless of course this is something u GOTTA do on the MP.

Nijaturtle, thanks for the advice. Yes the new akai can be a matrix. All I want to do is take a Sample of song e.g. James Brown song 20 seconds of a song and loop it over and over again. Repeat the 20 second sample 10 or 11 times. Then place a drumbeat over it and then vocals. That’s all I want to use akai for. Nijaturtle , there is an easier way to do this on a computer. How can you do this on a computer? I would be really grateful for a few tips. If anyone could advice me on the above as well I would be grateful.

The most important thing is practice. Start simple, just make a 20 second sequence with your sample in it once. Then try making the sequence longer.

if you really do want to read how to do it, buy the book advertised at the top of this forum, beatmaking on the mpc1000. it's very good and will show you everything you need to know, step by step

if all you want to do is arrange loops, it would probably be easiest to do this in Ableton Live rather than an MPC... ableton will even allow you to change the BPM of your loops on the fly... you may wanna look into that program instead. or if you insist on hardware, for looping purposes you could probably pick up a Roland SP-404 or SP-303 or whatever SP series sampler for much cheaper than an MPC.
