Sample loading tips need help please

Hi All,

I just got my first mpc so I'm a bit clueless with it all. I just wanted to know what's the best way to put wavs on to my hard drive. Not so much the transferring of the files but more the way to organize the samples. At the moment I've got the samples in folders relevant to the sample pack from which they came, but within each folder there are sub folders i.e kicks, snares, claps and so forth.

Also I've been making computer based music for the past 12 years or more and I've got used to certain ways of working. So what I'd also like to be able to do is make a bank of sounds whilst making a track, i.e. find a kick drum load it to pad 1 then find a snare I like from any of the sounds banks on the hard drive and load it to pad 2 and so on.

Are these at all possible?

As for organizing the samples... i do it like this:

I have a folder on my mpc called "drums". This folder contains subfolders for various drum kits... one is called "sampled from vinyl", another one "JDilla drumkit", another one "9th Wonder Production Kit", etc. These folders contain subfolders called "Kicks", "Snares", etc...

But really, it is pretty much up to you how you want to organize the folder structure. Find a system that works for you.

The other things you've mentioned about loading samples while you're making a track... it's possible, yep (of course).

Thanks for the reply jdilla, at the moment i go to mode pad 7 (program) but i'm finding i have to load all the samples in the folder to the RAM, then i can select the wav and assign it to each pad. Is this the best way or is there a better way?

when you save a program, create a new folder and save it in there along with all its samples. then you can go to that folder and load the whole program and all the samples it uses

loading the program will re-assign all the samples to the pads, you don't need to do it one-by-one every time

I have an mpc500, but i think it'll be the same for the 1000...

The easiest way is to go to the LOAD screen (mode pad X (load)) instead of the program screen. In the load screen you can select what exactly you want to load... a program, sequence, sample, etc. Select sample and go to the folder which contains the samples you want to load. When you scroll through the samples in the folder, you can press the play button to listen to the sample, then, if you want to load one of the samples, you press "do it" and the mpc will ask you to which pad you want to assign the sample (then you press the pad you want the sample to be on and press "do it" once more to confirm, done!).
