Making the MPC1000 portable

Hi Guys,

I was looking to get an MPC500 a while ago due to the fact it could run off batteries, but it lacked some key features that you get on the MPC 1000 (especially when you install JJ OS). So in my quest to find a way to make the MPC1000 work on the road (mainly on the bus and train on the way to work) I found a solution.

Now it's not ideal but never the less it works a treat.

I'm told you should be able to run the MPC1000 for about 6-7 hours per charge.

Portability Yes practicality no.

How portable do you really need? For me, sometimes I wish I could make beats on the train out here but I would probably get robbed along the way so that takes some things out the equation. I don't know, I find that I am rarely in a place where I can really sit down and there isn't an outlet in site. I am not someone who need "portable" in the sence of being able to make beats everywhere, I just may need to bring my MPC to a working environment.

I would rather invest in a 500 personally than lug that thing along with me, with a 1000. It is portable in a sense but it isn't exactly something you can just throw in a bag and bounce.

yo, i thought of that huge box too, but the fact of the matter is, there has got to be a better way, someone who is good with electronics would probably know best, if i owned a 1000 i would bring it to TN with me when i visit my dad, he is very good at soldering, and one time i watched him figure out how to mod a lil tv to run of a battery incase there is a tornado and the power goes out, so he can see whats going on on the news, lol., i could send him the schematics of the 1000 but i know he would have to have one to figure it out. I know if he did it with a tv, then it can be done with a 1000, you guys with the mpc1000 should have already had this figured out,. if i had a 1000 i would, but i have a 500,. i too would love a battery powered jjos, but its not a necessity

The box isn't as big as it looks, i put it in my rucksack and off i go.

I used to have a lot of time in the studio but I've become a dad in this last year and haven't been able to get much studio time, which is prob why i'm willing to run around with the extra weight of the battery and mpc1000. though i would have much prefered the 500 if the jj os was available for it.

I guess it's one of those things where it's not gonna suit everybody, but thought the info may interest/help someone.

^^^ thanks for the info though,, i would love a portable jjos.. i wonder if there might be a smaller alternative for that battery, something the size of a notebook.

what i do is, i use an adapter to plug my mpc into the cigarette lighter of my car, then i use an iPod FM transmitter to run the audio through my car speakers via the headphone output. sorry it wouldn't work for a train or anything but i'm just throwing the idea out there in case any of you can branch off of it with a better idea.

That's what I do also with the MPC 1000. I also have a laptop with VST's running in the passenger seat connected to the FM transmitter.

there has to be a way to put one of those external laptop batteries in the hard drive spot and hardwire it in after the power supply, right??????
