Tips...
1) Use it... a lot... learn the lingo, buttons and soul of the machine.
2) Ask questions, and give as much detail as you can to get good responses
3) Consider getting JJOS1/2/XL, you can demo it for free and just cannot save. Long term it will be a good investment
4) If you have the old pads, consider getting the pad replacement online
5) Consider getting the MPC1000 Tutorials available from this site
6) Figure out what your sample source(s) will be... vinyl, mic, youtube, iPod... get the right cables to hook it up
7) Learn how to properly save (entire memory) and load (project/folder)
That enough to get you started?
HDD Benefits, more space to save, don't have to worry about misplacing it... however USB 1 is kind of slow... so get ready for that.
Memory upgrade is important long term... so good idea there.
Go to the JJOS forum, and read up on the stickies to learn what features they have and see if they are something you are interested in.
