When I press the mode button, my MPC tweaks out

Ok, first off I'm a newbie so I apologize if I'm asking a question that's been beaten to death already, but I searched and searched and couldn't find anything related. Anyways, here it goes.....

Two days ago, my MPC 1000 started acting up. In a nutshell, whenever I press the mode button to access the load screen or save screen or any of the other mode options, the button doesn't flash green at first like it should. Instead, it goes straight to the save screen or straight to the trim screen etc etc. Along with that, it acts as though I'm repeatedly pressing the hell out of my pads when I'm clearly not pressing anything. Anyways, I can't do anything with my MPC as a result. It just wigs out whenever I press the Mode button.

*On a side note, I also noticed that on occasion, lets say I have a kick assigned to a pad. The kick sounds great, everything is gravy, but all of a sudden it shifts all of its sound to either the left or right side of my headphones, almost like i slammed the panning all the way to one side or the other. However, this is happening without me messing with the panning and it's something that I can't fix, other than to restart my MPC. Does this mean my MPC is going to ISH??? Are the two problems related and easily fixable?

Can anyone please help me with a detailed answer. I'm not the most tech savvy person. I took my MPC apart once already to see if anything was unplugged or anything. At first glance, I didn't notice anything, but I don't know exactly what I'm looking for. Please help, pleeeeeease! This is driving me insane and it would be a shame if I invested my money into something I can no longer use.

Sounds like a loose connection...i had the same problem.

What you could do is open up the MPC....disconnect and connect all connections which you see.
This could solve your problem.

i have it opened up but to be honest, are the connectors the white "clips" i guess, with wires going into them? i don't know how to disconnect them properly, i fiddled with them but I feel like I'm gonna break the dang things. do you have any tips on how to properly disconnect them? and do i open the MPC up from the top or from the bottom? I opened up the top. thanks for the advice so far...

If you are not sure how to do is...maybe it could be better to ask a friend who is more savvy to do this.

The MPC can be opened up with a couple of screws on the side and bottom....this will let you open up the top and bottom.

Btw...don't do all steps as it concerns repairing the pads....just until step 6

nice, that visual is gonna be a great help. with the connectors, are there little clips that you have to press in in order for them to release from where they're connected? thats pretty much the only thing that's bugging me. they just seem really brittle, i don't wanna break them. i feel fairly confident that once i can get the connectors un-connected, i can re-connect them and hopefully be free from my furious mind-state.

The little white plastic connectors can be pulled out straight a bit (use your nails)...then it is possible to take out the flat cable from this connector.

You can then clean it a bit....put it back...and also secure the white plastic clip again.

Just be carefull pulling out everything in a straight line....not bending it.

sweet. i know this sounds dumb, but my fingers don't really fit into some of the areas to undo the clips ie the area to the left of the click wheel. should i pull from the wires themselves? that doesn't sound like a good idea. can i remove the tempo button from that area to get to it? it looks like it just snaps in and out of place. any recommendations for that lol?

I've no experience of this personally but I have read on here about several people having the same issue. Unfortunately i think it requires a replacement board to fix it, so I would expect the problem to get worse before it gets better.

thanks so far for the tips folks. is there anyone else with more advice on undoing the connectors. is there a super easy way to do it? I'm assuming you don't pull them out by grabbing the wires. it looks like there are little clips on both ends of the connectors to squeeze and release the connector. and also, is there an easy way to get to the connector located to the immediate left of the click wheel? my fingers are too small to get in there. can you somehow remove and easily replace the tempo button temporarily once you have the face plate off? that would free up some room to get to the connector. can anyone please advise me, much appreciated. This is my first time disassembling my 1000 and I don't wanna F it up. Thanks...
