New to MPC 1000 and need help! No sound when I hit the pads.

My wife bought me a used mpc 1000 for Father's Day. It did not come with a manual, only the cords and the 128mb sound card. I played with it for a little bit. Tried to upload sounds from another CF card ( SanDisk 512 mb). Now I cannot hear any sound when I hit the pads. Im may have mistakenly deleted sounds or something in my process of uploading. When I first got it and at the start up I was able to hit pads to hear the sounds that came with it, now I cannot hear anything eventhough it still show the pre-made sequences. But when I go to mode and load and hit the play button I can hear the sounds. Any help, suggestions is greatly appreciated.

were the samples you tried to load 44100Hz .wav files?

if you put the original CF card back in, does it work ok?

it was probably automatically loading sounds from that card

download the manual, read about AUTOLOAD, and how to save samples to the MPC's builtin memory as instead of the CF card

the "Beat Making on the MPC1000" book sold through this site is useful for understanding that stuff
