The Delay Effect sync

I programmed some percusions in the MPC and I want to apply some delay on them. I know how that is done...just am not being able to make it sync to the bmp no matter I use the bpm sync or not.

How do you guys do when applying the delay effect? How do you make it sync with the rhythm?

Are you recording your pad hits to a specific tempo or just hitting them?

I have the sequence written in the MPC. I synced but just a very basic, I mean very basic echo like delay... nothing more!

Maybe my question was poor, did you record the sequence against a metronome or something or did you play your sequence blind?

If you think about quantizing no, it s not the problem I put the notes one by one like in step edit method in order to make sure they are on the beat...the thing is with the delay...the max I get is a basic single delay...very unusable...

Unless you doubled the tempo, mpc1K will work at 96ppq. So delay 1.0 is indeed .96(turn the dial on delay tempo with beat synch to persuade yourself). Half tempo delay is .48 and first triplet is at .32, while second is at .64, easy huh ?!?

If you doubled the tempo double the figures also.

The rest is plain math, experiment and see.

Man, I read what u wrote... The main thing is that I cannot get interesting delays with the effect.

Maybe I do something wrong.

Can anyone post some audio clips of any hats or something using the Mpc delay?

... maybe i'm not getting the point, but I guess that 'interesting effect' has to do with more than just delay settings.

Play your hats live w/o quantize, then apply the delay: it could help in order to grrove the thing a bit more.

Ok man..I'll try to do that.

What I meant is that it is just like a very simple basic delay...no 2/3, 3/4...and so on settings...

ok... if you're looking for 2/3 you mean "Divide Quarter by 3 and Hit on second third" so your setting will be: (.96/3) * 2 = .64

It goes by like this for 3/4: (.96/4) * 3 = .72

As I told you, MPC1K works at 96PPQ (Points Per Quarter note)... the rest is plain math.

The delay can do whatever you want... just apply the rules! And if it still does not gives you enough expression, develop the expression and program it by hand adding the notes manually (after you played the original track with no quantize) this way you'll control the volume, the tune and the eventual shift over the main tempo too...
