My MPC doesnt seem to be getting along with my Mac

After just getting an MPC 1000 (used of course), I begin my journey hooking the mighty MPC up to the formidable MacBook Pro and arrange my samples within the drive of the MPC to how I see fit. Then every time I try to eject the MPC, the MacBook tells me that it was unable to eject because 'there may be programs still using the disk. But by jove I know there aren't. At this point even force eject will not eject the disk every time.

Then after having to yank the usb out of the computer, I go to load the samples i just stuck on the flash drive and the MPC i always telling me WRONG FILE, but again I am sure the sound clips are .wav, for I created them in live and exported the individual sound files as a .wav.

This issue is beginning to give me nightmares.

Im using version 2.12 and Live 8

the WAV files have to be 44.1KHZ 16bit.

yeah the files are, still says wrong file.

make sure there are no running Finder windows or terminals which are in a folder on the MPC

make sure Live isn't using a folder on the MPC

(just quit everything to be sure)

try emptying the Trash, there might be files in there which are on the MPC

Have you tried punching the MAC or alternatively the MPC?

Yeah I have basically done all this, even tried shutting down the mac while mpc was stuck in, but the mac wouldn't shut down.

Done far worse... put it up on Craigslist

Your problem may have to do with yanking the usb from the computer. This is a quick way to corrupt files on your CF card and may be part of your problem. Worst case, at least shut down your computer. It may be annoying but it is much safer for your CF/HDD. Probably worth making it a priority to figure out what app is actually locking the MPC up too...

Also how are you sure that the files are .wav files? On the Mac due to the meta data it could have the .wav extension but actually be an aiff/mp3 or something else. Just curious how you're verifying that they are in fact .wav files. I'd just verify in Live that the files you are creating are .wav and not .aiff. Sounds like you already checked, but maybe worth one last try?

How long are your filenames? One thing that comes to mind is if you have a lot of files with the same 16 characters you could easily have one file that is bad blocking all of the good files. The MPC only differentiates between the first 16 characters, and for any group of files with the same 16... it will only play/load the first file in the group.

Have you tried downloading .wav files in the 44.1khz/16bit variety from the web to see if those work?

I tried shutting off my computer while it still in the usb, and computer was unable to properly shut down, that was when I yanked it. But I have gotten my hands upon a card reader and the mac and card reader seem to be getting along just fine, so an easy workaround did the trick.
And your suggestion regarding the filenames was, surprisingly, the problem. thanks for the tip

The filenames was a complete guess too. I wouldn't have mentioned it other than it was the off chance.
