Large wavs

I am trying to load some one shots from a few sample CDs to make my own programs. Problem is, THEY ARE ALL LARGE! Some crazy examples: 2MB drum, 576 KB hi hat. Is the problem in the format that they were saved on the disk or can I make them smaller myself? They are 16 Bit uncompressed.

something might be wrong with it. Why don't you load it into a computer, edit it and dump via usb to the 1K?

Samples of kiks shouldn't be that big unless they're a loop...

That's what I'm doing. Pulling the sample flies over by computer.

I think what we're getting at is: take a look at your samples in a WAV editor: how long are they? Any dead space you can cut out at the end? (We assume there's no dead space at the start, or the pattern timing would really suck.)

Drum hits are almost never stereo, convert your samples to mono if they are stereo...
Otherwise, you must have dead space, so you just have to use the MPC or a WAV editor to trim off the excess.

Doing the maths:
16-bits = 2 bytes.
44100 samp/sec X 2 bytes = 88100 bytes per second. So, 1MB = approx 12 seconds in Mono, or 6 seconds in stereo.
So where is all the time going? 12-second bass drum hit?

Thanks man. I think they're in stereo. They time out very well, so I don't think there's dead space.

Can you save memory by recording only a few bars into your sequencer program and putting the track together with loops? Or does this not make a difference?

If you're asking what I think you're asking... whole bars of audio take up a lot of space, you save memory by working with individual beats. (Assuming you can fix your file size problem.)

Thanks. I have started trimming some of the one shots from the sample CD and saving them as mono. Turns out I won't use much of them anyway.
