Hardware or Software problem? Somethings off...how do I fix

I have an MPC 1000 that's just....wrong. For example when i hit the right arrow, the 16 levels button lights up. The bottom left pad (#1) doesn't work..although that may be a sensor issue.

My question is, is it a software issue? or is the wiring possibly messed up? i bought it second hand and there's a scratch on it so it may have seen some physical abuse. I've tried reinstalling the AKAI OS, but that worked for about 10 minutes.

Any Ideas?

Sounds like a hardware / connection problem to me.
