Any benefit to having Ableton Live and an MPC1k together? Pu

So I still have to wait like a week until my MPC gets here. I've been so eager to start playing around with some of the sounds that I've been collecting. I forgot about a copy of Live 8 that I downloaded a few weeks ago. Last night I finally got it to work and played around with it.

It seems to be a pretty cool program and I noticed on Akai's website that they had a link for synchronizing the MPC1k to live, making the MPC "master" and ableton the "slave".

Firstly, let me apologize for my lack of knowledge in what all of this might mean. I'm totally new to all of this and I'm just now trying to get my feet wet.

1.) What is the purpose of having both the MPC and Ableton Live working together?

2.) What exactly does the "master" and "slave" mean, and again, what's the benefit?

The reason I ask this is because I always see a lot of posts that seem to pit Ableton Live and the MPC against each other. It's always an "Ableton Live VS MPC" thread that I am used to seeing. So, when I saw that people were using them together I thought to myself, "Isn't that a bit redundant having an MPC and a software version that does pretty much the same thing?"

3.) Any example scenarios of how having both would be beneficial?

The master/slave thing is referring to midi


if you look in your ableton you will see an instrument called "drumrack" which when setup has 16 visible "pads" at a time where you place samples. Each "sample" has it's own audio track in ableton that is folded into a stereo bus track



witnh the mpc 1000 hooked to ableton via midi you can use the mpc pads to trigger the samples in the drumrack .

you can use the midi sequencer of the mpc to sequence the patterns of the ableton drumrack.

with the mpc as the master and ableton the slave. the mpc will control the tempo and the start/stop.

the greatest benefit to using them both together is you can record audio tracks in live and arrange them visually, you can also load vst synths and plugins for more sounds.
