I really get annoyed having to twist that pan button to get a mono out signal. Is this stupid design flaw fixed in one of the JJOS versions? If so which?

Can you give a bit more detail of what you're actually doing? Step by step.

When you go to the mixer page and select out you can only select stereo pairs as outputs.
So to route for instance a kick to a mono output, you have to pan it to the side.

OS2XL lets you pick a single output, so no panning
