MPC 1000 Worth the money?

I have been making beats for a while on my keyboard and computer and have had some success with it. A couple of small time album appearences. Is upgrading to an MPC 1000 A good buy to improve my beats or are they just a waste or money. ANy tips or opinions would be of much help.

All I can say is when I got my 1000 (my second MPC...I used to have a 60II), my beats got about 100% better. It is just a completely different way of working, and provides a sort of instant gratification that's next to impossible to get with keyboads and software sequencers. If your setup is working really well for you, it may not be the best choice, but if you're starting to feel really stagnant in your production (like I was), it could well be a really good buy. It's definitely worth the money, but you have to consider whether you're comfortable changing your working methods. I don't regret buying the 1000 at all, and it's SOOOO much easier to get samples/beats/songs transferred between the 1000 and a computer than it was with my 60II. Now I have the 1000 for sequencing and pads, and an S950 for the actual samples, so it's really kind of like having a 60 with a lot better computer integration, but with the same exact sample engine as the 60II. Personally, I'd say go for it if you can afford it. You won't likely be disappointed in any way. If you're already used to using your computer for production, you no doubt have aquired a decent sample editor, which is really all you need to get the most out of the 1000. The only MAJOR difference between the 1000 and the other MPCs is the lack of a lot of sample manipulation tools built in to the 1000, but I'd rather chop and trim samples on the computer anyway, and just re-import them into the 1000 or into the S950 than use a software sequencer. I barely even load Logic Platinum now except when it's time to mix my tracks. 95% of my production happens in the 1000 and the S950. Hope this helps!

Another great point is that the MPC1k is so portable - much more so than a Desktop computer. You can take it anywhere and create music no hassles - so long as you have the memory card and RAM (more money).

The USB connection with the computer is awesome. I do all my chopping in Protools and bounce files down and save them to the MPC via USB. I've also got MPCPgm maker which is an application which allows you to create pgm's easily using your computer. Oh and don't forget MIDI. So while it is a great companion of the computer it is also great to sit down with the MPC alone and treat it right.

It's a real musical instrument that you carry around and play anywhere, If you learn it inside out like you would a guitar or any other instrument you can do some amazing things. I love it.
