MPC 1000

What I do is get a good drum loop made that I like on my mpc1k. I then make a program with only my chops in it. Play the drm loop then just experiment with your chops to a melodiy that you think sounds the best. Its not that complicated you dont really need to know music theory rules with the mpc and samples. Unless your trying to play chords and learn how to play the piano music theory is very helpful. So if im getting a good understanding of what your trying to do your kind of complicating a easy thing. With some practice im sure youll get the hang of it.

Good looking out OZ. I try to put up a good drum loop also. Sometimes my melodies sound good. My basslines are decent. I just have to find better sounds. I usually tune my samples down. To make them sound dirtier. Speaking of piano sounds, What do you use to lay down your piano sounds? Do you chop in recycle or off of sample cd's? Appreciate the info.

I do piano sounds various ways, if I hear a good piano sound I like from a song ill sample it chop it in recycle. And sometimes I play a melody on my roland xp-30 synth and record it to soundforge and manipulate it to a clean loop. Ive only been making beats myself for 7 months now so im fairly new myself. Check out some of my beats, the first three are my latest. And the bottom three are my first beats wich are pretty whack. "Ready to rhyme" is a chopped sample, and the two beats after that I played myself. It sounds like you know what you have to do, its all a matter of executing.

What up OZ. I went to your link. I was only able to listen to the mp3's. I will listen to the others when I get the my media player to act right. Ready to rhyme was nice. You keep it right so the mc could flow over it. I will use your advice, Just keep working at it. I love the sequencer on the 1000, it beats a computer anyday. I also sequence on Pro Tools. All my sound processing is done on the computer. I may buy some outboard processing gear but for right now I use plug-ins and foot pedals. If you have any good advice just hit me up. Keep making them beats. One other question. Do you use a mixer?

Yeah, I luv the 1000 sequencer as well its hot. Man!! you got protools I was trying to get a Mbox which comes with pro tools LE or if I had $2000 to blow I would get that digi 002. Im still debating to get a mixer or not. The 1000 has a mixer in it, plus I use sonar for my pc sequencing and that has mixer capbilities. I do plan on getting a mixer down the line, but I want a recorder first, thats going to be my next piece of hardware. My plan is to be able to do everything without a pc. Only use my pc to master and edit my wave files. yeah sincere just holla at me whenever.

Yo Oz, I'm from Columbus. I have a mixtape up here in Jersey that I sequenced in Pro Tools. I will be down in September. I am making beats for some guys in NY. I am not where I want to be with the 1000. I am thinking about a recorder myself. I run my beats into the m-box and use the solo and track mute. Since the sequencer is so hot it puts everything in its proper place. I seperate it on a new track everytime so I can use my plugins. I use the 4 assignable outs. I'm sure you do this in Sonar. I am putting up drum beats first then using my soft synths to layer. I still don't know how to record my soft synths into the the 1000. If you can even do it. I can play them and record them into pro tools or p-5 over my loop though. Next up for me is the ASR-10. A classic. I seen the dvd on it and fell in love. One.
