Recording from Main Out

I want to record my beat from my main out so i can get a wav file of it and put it on the computer. However, when I go to the record screen and i select Input: Main Out and then I play my beat, the level meter does not show anything at all.. not even noise. So it's impossible for me to tell whether or not I'm getting the hottest recording I can... What's the problem? Is that supposed to happen??? (The beat does play however, I can hear it on the speakers, just doesn't appear on the level meter)

There's no problem. That is normal on both the akai os and jjos.

is it normal for the sample recorded through MAIN OUT to have a lower volume level then the MAIN OUT signal?

I tried playing an audio track and recording the MAIN OUT, the sample that I get has a lower volume than the one in the audio track. I thought that MAIN OUT is recorded internally, without any D/A/D conversion, or am I missing something?
