MPC 1000 Coexisting with ASR X Sampling Workstation?

I just got my MPC and was wondering if I should scoop up the ASR X for its sampling and FX capabilities?

I mean, I can sample with software and probably get a midi controller for the same price, but nothing beats actually playing with music on hardware


Comments? Is it worth it? Can you use it along with the MPC 1000?

Unless you need the sound engine in the ASR-X, it's redundant. Spend the money on a nice keyboard synth.

for real,if you got the 1k,use it's sampler.I personally wouldn't go that route,just a waste of loot to have 2 samplers

It's good to have more than one sampler because different samplers have different properties, but the mpc1000 samples, sequences, and has effects and filters already... it does everything the asrx does already.... the filters and effects on the asrx are better, but the sequencer is not as good. If you decided to get the asr, you'd better sequence it on the mpc.

I'm mainly trying to go for the ASR sound. It has a good sampling engine but I dunno if I should just stick with Software for chopping.



I guess it won't hurt seeing as how it goes for only a couple hundred on ebay.

I got the asr-x with urban dance expansion (megs of extra sounds) when it came out, and I produced a couple of songs entirely within it resulting in mixes with good clarity and bottom end.

However, it's too unreliable. You will have crashes and crashes, and sometimes it will crash resulting in shrieks of digital noise that'll blow your ears right through your headphones until you pull the power cord and lose all your work.

For me, that killed it in the end. Don't even think you can use it live, it's just too unreliable. It sounds great though, esp the sound expansions, and the fx are wonderful, but the mpc is just better all over (and you can't even compare the sequencer and pads, the mpc wins hands down)
