Hi all,
I just purchased a used MPC 1000 from Guitar Center, got the full warranty, etc., and in theory trust my purchase.
I ran into an issue, however, when I attempted to connect my MPC to my brand new Macbook Pro, and was unable to connect. I followed all necessary steps, going into the USB settings on the MPC and then plugging in, but all I got was a connected message on the MPC warning me to eject before disconnecting the MPC, with no response from the computer. The MPC still works with the drum samples left over from the last user, but again it cannot connect at all.
This has been giving me major headaches, and any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks all!

I've noticed quite a few people who have Mac's that have problems connecting through USB, and have the same exact experience. Recognizes the connection, but there is no folder. I'm not saying it's impossible, but you might want to buy a cheap card reader and forget the USB. Save yourself the migraine.

Good Luck.

I have a (recently purchased) macbook pro that I use to transfer/backup my files with my MPC1000 and have no problems. Also running JJOS2XL.

Have you installed an internal hard drive? Generally it takes my macbook a min or two to recognize my hard drive but only a few seconds to recognize my memory card.

the problem is usually that the mac users are using JJOS and didn't read the manual:
http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/usb308e.htm

did you press F6 to mount?

I would follow that and it should work...

And I don't think I have a memory card... I have nothing for the MPC 1000 other than the MPC itself... I'm still very new at this. Mount does not appear when I plug it in, nothing happens at all besides the warning that I need to eject it from 'my pc.' Also I don't think I have JJOS but I'm not sure.

/facepalm

ok, if you don't have a Compact Flash card in the front slot on the MPC, and you don't have a hard disk in the MPC, then you don't have anything to connect via USB, which would explain why you can't connect anything via USB

if you do have a hard disk in there, on the USB page try changing the Load From / Save To field so it reads "HARD DISK" instead of "MEMORY CARD" ... but if you don't have either then nothing is going to work

if you have JJOS it will tell you when you turn the mpc on

Okay bear with me here I'm new at this... I still have beats and information stored on the MPC, is there a difference between internal memory and a hard drive? Because I have the internal memory. I'm sorry I'm so bad at this, thanks for the patience.

yes, internal memory is always there, it's builtin, and is different to a hard drive - a hard drive is an optional extra you can install

you obviously didn't read the manual carefully - the page about connecting via usb says you can't use it for internal memory

you probably want to buy yourself a compact flash card to save your work on, 2GB is probably big enough

you should also consider buying the "Beat Making on the MPC1000" book, sold through this forum - it's very helpful and explains all this stuff in more detail than the manual

Alright, thanks a bunch. I suppose I should have downloaded a manual, mine didn't come with one. I'll get both. If you don't mind me asking what's the point of the internal memory if you can't add sounds to it?

yeah, you can download the manual from http://www.akaipro.com

the internal memory contains the default samples and programs that come with the mpc, and it's there so the mpc isn't completely empty and useless without a CF card or hard disk

you can replace the files stored there, but only by saving on the mpc - not via usb.

to get files into the internal memory you need to get them on the mpc first, then save them.
There are several ways to get them on the mpc:

1) copy them onto a CF card using a card reader on your computer, then put the card in the mpc and load the files

2) put a CF card (or hard disk) in the mpc and connect it to a computer via usb

3) play the files and sample them using the mpc's inputs
