Recording audio -quality-

Hy Everyone,

I have an MPC 1000. I'm getting more and more comfortable with it.
I set up all my synths to MIDI and set audio through so I can record audio easily with my MPC.
First, I had to play around to not get distorted sound, (but read reviews about threshold, etc.) but now it's OK.
I just got a MacBook Pro and get a MOTU ultralite mk3 soundcard too, cause finally getting a home studio soon.
My question is, is the MPC sampling quality good enough or should I do my sampling with my Mac from now on?
What do you guys prefer?

Right now I am not able to sample directly to my MPC. I'm a new user of about 1 week now. Before my MPC I sampled everything on my computer for FL Studio use. I use Audicity as it easily allowed me to adjust output levels. All of my samples I uploaded to my CF card are clear with no clicking.


Im very sure you could sample just fine to your MPC as people have been doing it forever.

well they will sound different. so try them both. its a personal taste issue. i do like to use the mpc inputs for drums. you audio card will most likley have higher head room.
just experiment.

I will try it with the daw also.

With the daw... make sure you are taking in 16bit and 44100Hz to have it work properly.. I found out that non of my old chops would work until I did that.

Because I never had experience with moving wav from here and there I never had that issue, but I keep reading about that (wrong bit or not on 44100Hz), so I'm gonna pay attention to that.
But usually that is the standard, right? It should be on that setup.

With all daw's you can adjust to your liking.

My FL was saving in 32bit float format when I used FL Edison which is awesome for chopping.... none of them would work on the MPC. The only chops that worked were the ones I imported using an old standalone sound editor. The way I found this out was load all of my samples to my CF card. The only ones that worked were those in 16bit 44100hz format.. Then went on google to verify and I have had no issues since.

I now use Audacity to chop and export to my mpc. Very smooth fast and many features/option for such a free low consumption application.

Aham. But could you resample your 32bit to 16bit or you had to resample again?
Yes I read about the Audacity. I don't have but I have a Adobe Soundbooth on my mac. I guess that will do the job too.

I actually just open them up in Audacity or a good converter and made them 16bit. didn't lose any quality really.
