Output Volume Problem - NOT MASTER LEVEL!

Hey MPC forums, I'm finally able to say that I am among your ranks as a proud MPC owner (pwner)
Bought a 1000 off of ebay from America (half the price of what we have to pay here in Australia)
But alas, there's a problem...

The MAIN VOLUME knob has no effect on the volume coming out of the Stereo Outs or the Headphone Jack.
The volume coming out of them is very little to nothing.

I have tried changing the MASTER VOLUME setting in the OTHER window and turning it all the way up to 0dB results in a getting barely audible but distorted sound. Sounds like its clipping internally.

On the other hand, the Assignable Outs work fine, no problem there but also no volume control.

I have tried using the internal samples that came with the unit as well as new ones I loaded onto it,
I've also tried the original Akai OS as well as the Free JJ.OS

Does anyone have any ideas on where the problem lies?

To make matters worse, I've got a really limited amount of time on this as it seems like I've been sold a unit with a dodgy volume control and there's a short window of opportunity to do something about it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and would result in a large number of smilies being posted at the bottom of this thread.

P.S. I've already searched through the forums and also around the internets but no one seems to have the same problem. Or at least they're keeping it to themselves if they do.

Return it as fast as you can and get back as much money as you can if at all possible.

Could be the volume knob, could be the output jacks, could be anything in between. Could be haunted by the ghost of Weird Beard the pirate for all anyone knows, but my point is troubleshooting a volume control problem isn't as cut and dry as fixing a tact switch or rotary encoder. It's anyone's guess without popping the hood and getting into some hands-on hardware troubleshooting by an experienced tech. If you're not up for that, you should return it. Good luck.
