Step Edit Question

How can a note in the
step editor be changed
from say 001.01.00 to
001.02.23 ?

Im new to using the 1k, but i think the only way to move it there is to already have a pad event at your 1.02.23 and then copy what you want to be there, paste it on top of that time, and delete the old event.

Im prolly wrong, Id like to know too if theres another method.

What you do is copy the note you want to move, then delete it. Then go up to the top of the screen and select the time you want to trigger the note, and hit paste. It's ass backward from being able to adjust times directly, but it works.

Thanks for both post. But thats insane if I cannot
directly edit note times. The main purpose of a
step editor is to be able adjust note times exactly the
way you want them to be! I am easily able to do this
on all of my other sequencers. The MPC 1k has a timing correct
feature but it will not do what I need in all circumstances.
Damn, this is an utter disappointment, I saved my money up
for the past five months for this thing. The company I bought
it from, "Musiciansfriend" sent me a used one instead of the new
one I payed for. I know its used cause it did not come with a
manual and it contains samples of a luther vandros song
(I will be exchanging it). So for me the MPC1000 is nothing
more than an expensive glorified tone generator since I'll have
to make my beats on another drum machine or keyboard then
play or record them to the mpc 1k. I really wish people who
write reviews would thoroughly check the equipment out
before giving such glowing reviews about a device that lacks
basic editing capabilities.

Haha pretty harsh man! Its not that bad...

Once you get used to it, it's actually a pretty quick way of working. Just takes some getting your head around. Remember, some of us (okay, MOST of us) here woulld prefer to work as far away from a computer sequencer when making beats as possible. They have their uses, but banging beats is not one of their strongest points...

Yep, this is one of the first things I ran in to, and it's a little awkward, but you can get used to it. And no, I'm not making excuses for Akai, I look at the MPC1000 as an instrument, and no instrument can do everything exactly as everyone would like it...

MANiK, thanks again for your reply, what you said is true.
I also want to be able to make a beat from scratch by just
entering note names and times. I found out how to do it based
on your reply. You highlight the numbers at the very top of the
screen, change it to what you want, then hit "Insert" then hit "Do it".
The note names can be changed by selecting then changing them
using the data wheel. Its unnecessarily repetitive but it will work.

i agree, being unable to easilly edit the time position of a note in step edit is stupid, and the neverending list of people who say "its not that bad" only contribute to such functions being left out of the MPC 1000 features list. i am going to contact AKAI and ask them to put this in an upgrade. perhaps you could do the same. if enough people do ask, rather then saying "its not that bad" then they just might fix it. the other MPCs have a function in the time correction window that allows you to move single pads time positions back and forth and this helps,...surely they can include this in the 1k if they already have the programming script from the 2k/3k/4k.

this was also the first thing i was looking for in the manual for hours and didn't want to ask here because i thought the question was too stupid. its realy unbelievable that they forgot that basic funktion. it would be so easy, use the curser to get to position and the datawheel to change it. i think akai spent all there energy on downgrading the 1k, just not to make the small mpc "better" then the older bigger ones. first time ever i am sort of disapointed after buying new gear. but in contrast to the synthgear department there isn't that much of a choice concerning samplers...

Yes, my sentiments exactly. Letting Akai know how we feel about this
should help. Owners of the original Yamaha Motif were able to get some
changes made to the Yamaha Motif EX by posting their complaints and
desires to a forum on motifator.com. I was thinking I should start
such a thread here but I am not sure how it would be accepted seeing
that a lot of people here seem to be quite content with the way the MPC 1k
is now.
