sup yall,
love the knowledge on this site. i was a complete newbie when i got here but i read EVERYTHING so yall have helped me out a ton. i always see these vs threads so i wanted to throw my opinion in. i had an mpc3000 that i got for $500 here in China. It was the steal of the century. they dont know how to use them out here and dont know their value. it was new in the box and i wish i had bought two but i had only funds for one. anyways, i learned my ish on the 3k...great machine. thought about sellin it but decided it was such a nice peice, to keep it. i got the mpc1000 and i love it. so here are my reasons why my mpc1000 is now my mpc of choice

1. to my ears, it sounds awesome. peeps love to talk up the 3k and the sound. true i hear a difference, but nothing a good engineer couldnt adjust. and i am talkin VERY SMALL difference. the a/d on the 3 is better but i sample using my rme multiface that blows both away so i am whatever bout that. and the 1k ads are infact very good.

2. the sequencer is the same. i am not hear that BS that the 60 and the 3000 have a better seq than 2000 or 1000. same ish

3. the interfacing with computer is much better. this is extremely important to me cuz using a normal keyboard to organize and name samples is essential for me. and being able to see folders n stuff is much easier than the 3ks nonexistent file system.

4. programs. 1k can have up to 20 programs (?). whatever its more than 1. the 3k can only have one program at a time and things get messy that way. the 128 meg ram is also a BIG PLUS cuz i can record vocals stabs or adlibs direct with the 1k and a mic and have its own program. then put it through some filters or whatever.

5. portability is DOPE. i am a firm believer in the effect an environmnent has over your production. maybe i am just arty like that. but the fact that i can take it with me with a laptop or just by itself or even in the car with an adapter is SO PHAT. i sometimes use the adapter in the car and have my friend just drive around while i bang my ish through my system. almost like writtin my rhymes on a bus ala 8mile.

6. effects. ok yeah they are weak but they are not intended for mixdown ya feel me? of course pt or waves will sound better. but i am talkin maybe a filter for one hit that appears one time in the song. and they arent that bad with some ok eq.

7. speed. all this equals convinience. the 3k was great for drums and basic stabs but felt it was extremely limited when i wanted to make something more than just a 3 record sample beat. being that i use the computer tons, it was a pain transfering to my windows 98 laptop and then to my xp computer to do edits and then back the other way. sucks the inspiration out of me.

STUFF I MISS FROM MY 3K:
i do move faster on the 3k but that might be cuz i am used to it. data control knob sucks on the 1k. more midi on the 3k. 3k sounds hotter but i can make up for that. the 3k is built better. 3k has the 8 outs so its faster at tracking. thats about it.

so yeah all in all, i am very happy with my decision. the 3 will always be around but probably now more as a show peice or if ever i feel like doin a primo beat or something like that. but with the new hip hop stuff, i am stickin wit my 1000 ....
