Used 1000 Randomly Restarts?

I bought a used MPC 1k BK about a month ago on ebay. It's been fine from then until now, but twice in the past two days it's randomly turned off and turned back on... it was on for about 30 minutes before the reset in both cases. It's running JJOS 4.99. Any ideas what this could mean? It's connected to a pretty solid surge protector/power strip so I suspect it may be an internal problem? yikes I'm a little worried

my first suggestion is; this an internal hardware problem.
i mean maybe theres a problem with the contacts from the power supply in the mpc,
cause the power on button is not digital, it switches definitely on when its pressed in,
so maybe the circuit is randomly broken when there is a faulty soldered joint f.e.

you could check the power supply board for this,
but switch off the power cable!

i don´t think this is a software problem...

old pads or new pads?
if old pads, check the back of the pad assembly pcb.
then look at the back of the pad assembly metal frame.
it is possible that screws are touching the PCB.
cover the screws with electrical tape or some other insulator.

i've heard of this happening before. it's not the sure fire answer to your issue but it's possible.
are you directly using the MPC when this happens, or are your hands off it?

thanks to both of you for the ideas. Nym - they are the old pads and the resets have happened when I was NOT touching the MPC. Good thinking on the screws though, I took the pads off and the screws did seem strangely close to the frame... they have tape on them now in case that was the problem.

While looking inside the machine I made another interesting discovery. When I bought the MPC the seller warned me the eject button was broken. Wedged between two boards I found the entire eject button mechanism?? Not attached to anything, just rattling around in there. Looks like this...

SO, I've got one more question now, can anyone tell me how to fasten this eject trigger back to where it's supposed to go? I tried poking around a little myself but being an electronics novice I didn't want to get in too deep without some guidance.

extremely possible. congrats on opening your machine.

as for a fix for that, i don't know. i'd recommend going solid state internal HD or moving part internal HD though, it's much less of a headache than the CF card reader. that eject button is begging for trouble. sixtoo pointed that out back in 2004. i actually have my CF card reader completely disconnected from my mpc.
