S/PDIF clicking problems

I'm using the S/PDIF outs of my MPC1000 into a Motu 828mkII and am dealing with nasty clicking and cyclic buzzing. I've messed with the Clock Source and nothing seems make these nasty noises stop. Can anyone help me?

First and foremost...check your cables and set up. Make sure you keep your cables away from power cords. Play your mpc and lift the digital cable away from everything else. Does the sound go away? Does other digital equipment have the clicking problem?

Hey what up man...I had the exact same problem today, I have my MPC hooked up through my Soundblaster Extigy card and it worked fine last night but this morning when I started playing it, it had horrible clicking and popping. I just turned my soundcard off and then back on and it fixed the problem....weird...maybe that will work if you haven't already tried it good luck

I found that I have to turn my Echo MIA sound card's clock source to External if I want to use the MPC. With this setting I rarely but still get popping

I've seen this with random gear (XL-7, MPC1K, and even my Lexicon MPX-1 into an Echo Layla24).

Aside from setting clocks to "internal", also try hooking up any audio cable (in or out) from one unit to the other. It helps provide a *better* ground (electrically speaking), and has completely fixed this problem for me in the past (not using the digital outs currently).

The clicking problem came back for me tonight, it worked fine all morning and afternoon but after coming back from class I turned both the MPC and Soundcard on and got the clicking noise again. I kept turnin the soundcard off and on and messing with settings with it and it did nothing. Finally, I just restarted the MPC and that fixed the problem....so I don't know if the problem is the MPC or Soundcard but as long as I'm able to restart something and it fixes it I guess it ain't that bad...anybody have any idea what it is??? peace

this has happened to me just about every day since i got it, I jsut set the computer to EXTERNAL digital clck and it locks straight up clicks go away.. I think some of the creative labs stuff doesn't like to play 44.1 is ASIO mode.. so you may have an issue there. aside from that ..JITTER is usually caused by crap-azz RCA cables being used instead of a digital SPDIF transfer cable

on my system i have to set my motu 2408mk2's clock source to spdif or i get digital gunk.

make sure youre using a proper spdif cable. it's gotta be RCA (duh) but it is supposed to be 75ohms.

I'm betting in my case it's the cable, I've got a real cheap cable coupled to a much better cable connecting the SPDIF.

I think that probably is it.

Yeah, forgot to mention that: SPDIF *requires* video cables, not audio cable. You don't need to go out and shell $$ for a MONSTER cable either. Just make sure the cable is made for video, and its impedence is 75ohm.

on cheap cable..... come on now, spend the extra cuz. at 2am when your trying like hell to dump your track so you can cut out. ANd you keep gettin jitter and drop-outs .. you can drag your azz to walmart and spend the $$$ or you can save yourself the trip to the store, the headache leading up to the trip to the store and the headache brought on by the 2am trip to the store.

Some times if you dont have your grownd wire in your electrical socket connected right you will get a humming and clicking sound. Try another out let. and see if theres any difference.
