I'd like to use my MPC 1000 live, and sync it with my drummer. I think the most effective way to do this besides maybe sampling a click track and sending it through an assignable out would be to sync my MPC 1000 to a drum machine with MIDI out like a DR series.

Is it possible I could set the tempo with the drum machine, feed my drummer the click track from it via headphones, and then use the MIDI out to sync my MPC to it while I trigger samples?

yes, as mentioned in the manual. either that or slave drum machine to MPC. much better IMHO as you can send tempo changes, so drummer will get click track that can change tempo. very usefull

Yes, you could do that... but what do you need the drum machine for? Anything you do on it, you could as well do on the MPC. The MPC is a better sequencer than a Boss DR (I had a DR-770 for years, so I know ;-), you could sample the DR's sounds into the MPC if you want - I did, for practice, when I first got my MPC. You can run a sequenced click track from the MPC, no problem.

Forget the DR, it just complicates things. Get your drummer a headphone amp, feed him/her the click through an assignable out and you're set.
