How do you get samples to cut off?

Super new user here, literally first day.

Question - how do I set up the MPC so I can play on one-shot mode, but when I trigger a sample twice the second time cuts off the first?

As in, right now when I play a sample, and then I trigger it again before it's done playing, both the original sample and the new one play on top of each other. How do I get a pad to cut itself off? I know you can turn it into mono mode, but then I can't use a sample assigned to any other pad.

set it to mono, you'll be able to play other pads as long as they aren't assigned to the same mute group. i live by mono, unless i'm trying to do some fancy layering ish.

Load them as a drum program. Then hit menu. Program edit. Change the sample play from one shot to note on, and they will cut each other out.
