if the back panel where all the inputs and outputs are is silver then its old unit and will require pad upgrade eventually if it's black then thats the one you want, not sure about your average prices there thou

They are similar to the originals, but by virtue of being thicker no they don't feel softer. But it doesn't matter as more pad means easier contact with the sensors and significantly reduces the need for 2 finger hard taps dead center on the pad, which is how the Akai 1000 pads operate. Even the 2nd version single sheet pads that you have are still not designed properly. There is a slight gap between the bottom of the pad and the sensor. What Mike @MPCStuff has done is mold a pad sheet where the gap is filled, thus taking advantage of the proper normal MPC sensor sheet that the pad upgrade brought. End result; sensitivity on par with any other MPC ever.

With usage any MPC pad will soften over time from a combination of being pressed often and the natural secretions of grease from your fingertips. Just give it few months, and again as long you set sensitivity and threshold setting to something you like, you likely won't need to press very hard. It's a godsend to be able to trigger with light taps and even slight touches because of how it allows more expressive, organic playing. JJOS2XL is terrific as far as customizing your sensitivity settings.

Check the other Fat Pad threads, I'm not alone in the recommendation, 100% worth $40. MPCStuff has made a lot of 1000 users very happy. :D

I just got my (blue) 1000 for 240€ + 40€ shipping.

There will be another $180 for the Pad Fix at some point, but it's still ~100€ cheaper than buying a used one here in Germany. Plus I somehow like the blue look better. :)
