Sounds triggering by themselves, tried reinstalling Akai os,

I have the black MPC 1000 with the newer "sheet" pads, they have never been (still don't seem to be) a problem. The problem just started yesterday, doesn't happen 100% of the time, very sporatic. I can be in the middle of making (or listening to) a loop, then all of the sounds start being played by themselves. Even if I stop the loop and don't touch the MPC, it keeps playing ALL the samples, usually not 1 by 1, but ALL of them randomly as if someone were just mashing the pads together. Sometimes it will even start as soon as I turn the machine on. I called Akai, all they said was to reinstall the os, they have never heard of my problem. I've had the Akai OS version 2.13 for a long time now, and it's been fine til yesterday.

try the free jjos, you should probably have that anyway.

Ok, an update. After speaking with support at Akai, I called their (only) 3 authorized service centers. Only 1 of them had ever heard of my problem, and it was only in 1 case. They changed the "main board" to fix it. I've been searching all over the net for a solution, found the service manual. It speaks of a Test OS that literally tests different functions or components of the MPC to diagnose a problem. It can be used 2 ways, either from a JIG PC Flash Rom or from a CF card with the test os, just like loading any other os. I really hope someone here can help me find that Test OS!

1. open the mp up and reconnect your cables
2. take out your ram expansion
3. if 1 & 2 doesn´t fix the problem get yourself a new pad sheet...

Thanks the cables thing can't hurt...sure beats sending it off and paying $400+ (which is NOT going to happen anyway)

Ok, I tried cables, they were all very secure and I'm not a technician, so I didn't bother them much. But I did remove my extended RAM. Seems to have done the trick, I was thinking the RAM was bad, but I put it back in, and no problems so far. It's only been a couple hours, but I usually get the problems in less than 15 min. Best of all, it was free! Hallelujah! lol
