Memory warning: MemoryX selling wrong part as "EXM128".

I've just had an offline email conversation with someone who's trying to get back on the board at the moment (email probs.)

MemoryX has the following page up, which led my correspondent to buy one of these : http://www.memoryx.net/exm128.html

Note the page filename, and the part number "EXM128 MT8LSDT1664AG10 $49.98":
- they are claiming it's a EXM128, the official Akai part.
- we can see from the picture that it's the wrong part straight away, but new users might not spot that.
- they are selling the same memory part number as standard DRAM elsewhere on the site: http://www.memoryx.net/pc7-2492.html - for $11 cheaper!
- they are not shipping an EXM128, as my correspondent found out the hard way.

I know this has been mentioned obliquely before (I searched), but I thought it worth pointing out again clearly: this is absolutely the wrong memory for the MPC1000, don't go there expecting a bargain.

I'm having a bad day, and now I have someone to take it out on: let me see what MemoryX customer relations says, eh?

I just checked back... they have a different part that they are now calling a EXM128. They have a photo, but I don't see an Akai label on there, and I don't trust this crowd.

yo who gives a **** if its not a real akai product, I mean if it works then its cool. Memories are cheap now and I wouldnt be surprised if they are selling something worth 11$ for the price of an AKAI MEMORY .. Duke akai is tryin to rip you off. I can buy the same stuff at junnk computer stores for about a dollar... So if it works it works!!!

I guess you would rather buy the akai memory for about 80$ more even if it is the same memory card as the ones from memoryx except theres no AKAI stamp on it... HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

The point was the first product they called Akai EXM128 DID NOT WORK. So, even though they are calling it the Akai EXM128, it is not. Go buy the official EXM128 elsewhere, or do some more homework, and make sure you know what you're buying & that it'll work.

The "EXM128" label is for the Akai part: this bunch have no right to stick "EXM128" on something that is not an official Akai part, it's misrepresentation.

Like putting a Cadillac sticker on generic brake pads: you're not just paying for the pads, but for a certain guarantee of quality. And even if the part is as good, for less money, that's the consumer's choice to make. The vendor is not permitted to misrepresent the part as genuine when it isn't!
