just received some pads from MPC stuff. i have not installed them yet but i am stoked to have them for my MPC1000 and mpd16 sensor array.

most of this has already been said, but it bears repeating.

first impression is that they are softer than the Akai pads. i am unsure of the exact Shore A hardness of the rubber used, but they are a tad squishier. they are, of course, thicker, as well.
second impression is that the molding is excellent. MPC stuff picked a very good manufacturer for this.
the color is great, a nice muted grey
they even smell like unshelled walnuts for some reason (do not eat the fat pads)
i can't wait to get my drum on. i'll make a video when i can.
you can tell just by feeling them that they will be better for live performances. as i've mentioned on theforums before, the more soft material that is between your fingertip and the sensor itself, the wider your velocity range. awesome

extreme props to MPCStuff for this service to the community.

Arkyve, not to answer for Nym, but the corx are molded right into the 1000 Fat Pad sheet. I think it's a big part of why they fit so perfectly. I tested them next to a minty 2000XL (which I feel has great pad sensitivity), and it felt about the same. Cosmetic in other MPC's, but for 1000's and MPD's, these things are a must.

Nym, I felt the 1000 ones were a bit softer myself. The full size Thick Pads are definitely not softer than OEM Akai pads, and seem like they'll take a while to soften.

with a side by side comparison i can't really tell which are softer, necessarily. i also don't remember how soft the Akai Pad Fix pads were when they first came...so i can't compare to how well they've "softened" as a result of use. i do know that the upper layer of rubber has worn smooth on my kick, snare, and hi hat pads though haha...so this is a definite cosmetic improvement (like my post-apocalypse mpc needs it)

i didn't get the corx, opting instead to use my silicone fix (fill the gap with soft silicone adhesive.

i did notice that i can now turn my NOTE ON threshold way down to 6 instead of 16. in the Akai pads, i had to have it way up so i didn't get ghost notes. this is extremely good for capturing extremely light finger taps.

one negative that has more to do with the frame than the pads: my frame might be bent a bit, cuz the metal grid doesn't push the pads down as much as it should. this could be corrected by adhering rubber strips to the underside of the grid so that it pushes down the pads to make uniform contact with the sensor array. easy fix.

now if only i didn't have a day job so i could give these fellers a proper go.

Nym, that bend must caused a decent gap then. My casing is minty and I couldn't imagine I'd even have space for the stick on corx or your silicone fix. Mine sit relatively flush with the sensor array.

No, because their thickness allows the underside of the pads to make much better contact with the sensor sheet. So really it's the opposite of what you asked. Then you can use the MPC internal settings to tweak the velocity curve and sensitivity to your taste.

I thought with the new thick pads, there was no need for the corx or silicone fix.....Anyone feel free to chime in. Ive been thinking about grabbing the fat pads.

Yeah, me too.

I don't have the fat pads, but I bought the glow in the dark ones for my 500 from mpcstuff, and there is a slight difference. You can just throw light taps of your fingers and it responds way better than the stock. But not too much piano-touch feel.

I hear complaints about the corks activating other pads and creating problems but when taken and ripped off, the MPC was fine again.

The 1000 ones are the only ones though, all the rest use the adhesive corx. No problems here with wrong/double triggers.

Just got them, huge improvement on accuracy and feel. Mind=Blown! My only gripe is that I didn't get them sooner :-P

Pay attention when installing that they sit tightly, takes some minutes to get the sheet stay down.

I just Ordered myself a set too(blue). And I'm not sure if it's because I have to break them in first or maybe it's the type of mold they use on the new blue colored ones but these pads are really hard. I'm hoping I just need to break them in but I was under the impression that the fat pads would be squishy/soft in feeling. Maybe the grey/black ones are? I saw a video of someone on YouTube using the black ones( might have been a member from this forum) and I recall that they looked like there was some give to them when pushed. Anyone get the blue fat pads and could chime in on the stiffness of them? Sorry for the long post haha
