Installing Akai OS 2.13 while having JJ OS 3.12 installed...

Hi. I own an MPC 1000-BK with JJ OS 3.12 installed. I was just wondering about checking out the functions of Akai OS 2.13 but I'm not sure if it's safe to install Akai OS while having the JJ OS in the MPC...

Second thing - I've heard that in Akai OS 2.13 there is a feature of increased metronome volume..
And now the question: If I install this Akai OS and than switch back to the JJ OS, will the metronome sound be increased? Does JJ OS work on the Akai OS engine like a sort of patch, or is it a complete system, independent from Akai OS?

Last thing - how can I switch between the Akai OS & JJ OS?

Please help... I haven't found the info nowhere in the net.

And what do u think about my question of JJ OS being a patch or an entirely independent software on its own engine? How does it function? Do some JJ OS functions depend on which version of Akai OS have I had installed before installing JJ?

It is not a patch, it's an entire operating system.

Yes, the Akai OS is gone once you go JJ. Yes, you have to install it again, if you really want to go back, for some reason.

Akai OS versions have nothing to do with JJ OS. You'll only get JJ features when you install it, as it wipes the Akai OS completely.

U know, cuz I was wondering that if I had for example the Akai OS v2.12 or v2.13 with that "increased metronome volume" and than I'd install JJ OS v3.12 on it, would that higher volume of the metronome remain loud on JJ, or would it be just replaced by the new OS and be exactly as loud as it always is in the JJ OS?

Never heard of the "increased metronome volume" thing, well, I've never used Akai OS or free JJ OS, so I can't compare the metronome volumewise. Try it yourself, can you notice the difference?

The metronome is adjustable (for volume, sound and some other parameters) from OS1 upwards.

well, the original Akai OS as well as the free JJ OS both have very low metronome volume with no option to adjust it which is quite frustrating especially while working on speakers when you can barely hear it clicking. But in the Akai OS 2.13 manual I've read that there is an "increased metronome volume" added. Check this out:

I thought I kind of answered your last question earlier... Well, the Akai OS (or whatever OS you had before) and its parameters are gone after you install another OS. JJ has its own set of parameters and they are completely independent of whatever OS there was before. So the question really is: "Is the free JJ OS metronome volume as loud as Akai OS increased metronome volume?" And I don't have a real answer for that. I don't know.

Still, Akai OS 2.12 was released in 2008, JJ OS 3.12 in 2011. I don't think it would make any sense that JJ would have chosen to make the metronome quiter than Akai.
