MPC JJOS

Does one need to be well versed in the AKAI OS before using any jjos programs? I see plenty jjos users on you tube and they are pretty informative. But without a basic text (to my knowledge) on how to get the most out of any jjos how does one get up to speed?

I have purchased jjos 4.99 , os1 and 2xl but am still using the AKAI OS thinking I need to get a handle on it first , before moving up. But honestly it's a pain in the ass to get around compared to what I'm seeing on youtube. Comments please.

Yes JJ states this on his site abut the AKAI O.S. Even with all the changes JJ made you still have to know the functions of the machine and the AKAI O.S. PEACE TYPO

I think that you should use JJOS.Ten system is based on the original AKAI, so common operations are the same (like Save, Load, etc.)
You can master the basic functions of MPC pretty good on JJOS. Everything you learn just by doing the music.

Theoretically, you're correct. In reality, it isn't very hard to start on OS 1 though, there are just a handful of functional differences compared to Akai OS. It is quite easy to learn if you have the Akai manual, (Stan Steez) JJ OS 1 manual and - naturally - the Beat Making on the MPC book. That's how I did it.

Thanks everyone for the input , like all my other equipment, nothing replaces experience with the machine seems to be the bottom line. The OS1 is pretty intuitive , but I hate creating masterpieces and screwing them up cause I don't know how to save it , or what I'm doing. But hey, isn't that what they call paying my dues? Beatmaking on the MPC has proven invaluable just like this forum . Thanks again.
