Used mpc 1k

Hello guys, im new here and also new to the mpc world, and i am looking to purchase an mpc 1k, i found one on craigslist for about 300 but i dont know anything about mpcs, how do i check and make sure its fully functional, its one of the older 1k models( blue/red) any input would be nice thank you all

there is a good chance that you will need to replace the pads on that mpc.. because the first generation 1000's came with a faulty pad design... that will cost you an addition 200 bucks or close to it..

Pads and sensors ? Those could be purchased as mpcstuff right ?

yeah, but i'm not talking about that.. i'm talking about the pad upgrade.

Usually a good idea to push all the buttons too to make sure that they all appear to do something.

If it is still loading the default sound set, then hook up some speakers and make sure each pad is responsive. If you're not used to the MPC pads, you might want to push the "Full Level" button and see if each pad makes a sound.

It is worth checking the CF card slot, so if the seller isn't including one then bring your own and see if you can select the "MEMORY CARD" from the mode button->load pad.

Bring a pair of headphones and make sure you can hear sounds coming through the headphone jack. I'd also independently try the left/right outputs. You could try the 1-4 outputs, but if you don't know your way around very well then you can worry about that later.

If you've got a cell phone, get an 1/8" to L/R 1/4" inch cable, play some music on your phone through the headphone jack, and then do a mode->record pad and see if you can record some sounds in.

Also worth checking... when it boots see if it has 16mb or 128mb of memory.

Check to see if it has the Hard Disk installed (though doubtful at $300).

If you want to check if it has the newer or older pads, grab a pad from the sides and wiggle it left-right and up/down. If you see the pads that surround it move it's the newer pads, if only the pad moves by itself then you have the older style pads.

Is the pad upgrade just new pads ?

not its not just buying new pads....its a pad upgrade that will cost around $170+, then after that upgrade you can buy new pads for around $25.00

thats why some/most people prefer to buy the MPC 1000 Black-N models, because they already have the pad upgrade, and you wouldnt have to chip in $170 to do it yourself on the older models.

keep in mind they are 2 kinds of the black model, the MPC 1000 BK and the MPC 1000 BK-N.......the BK-N has the upgrade already.


just find out the model number, if it has BK-N....thats preferebly the one you want

The used one im getting is the blue/red one

ok, so your gonna have to find out if he has the pad fix installed...if not, it may/may not become a problem for you in the future.

(ie you hit pad 12 and it will trigger pad 16, etc.)

and then check inputs/outputs, screen, cf card slot, etc. as stated before....and you should be good

Dont buy it. Just find a black one with the new pads and be done with it.
