I am kind of trying to start some drama, but in a good way. I bought the mpc 1000 when it first came out and I had loved it. But I kept noticing the infamous bug that caused samples to occasionally not trigger. I went through two mpc 1000's before I decided that I could not cope with that type of an issue. I need to rely on this type of a machine for live performances. Time has passed and I keep checking back here to see if I can confidently reinvest in the mpc 1000 again. It has so many features that I am looking for. All that I need to know is that what I program will play back how I programmed it when I depend on it. Why do people keep buying and supporting this machine with a "serious" defect? How difficult is it for Akai to fix this one ailment? Why don't I see more complaints from newbies concerning this issue?
On a totally unrelated note, why can't effect settings be saved in a more intelligent manner. This machine is frustrating in design. Some aspects are brilliant, others are moronic.

peace I guess

I use it live and i dont see that big of bugs that the audiance will noticed, It sounds good to me, nothing at all is that bad with it. A couple of bugs here and there but akai fixed the biggest one i think with the latest upgrade.

if your talking about these samples cutting out, and your using step recording, then i know exactly what your doing wrong, and you just gotta work around it

your probably repeating 2 samples of the same pad in a row, they may be 3 bars apart and this can still happen

use the duration time the D: in step recording, and set it to cut off right before the next oen plays. i cant explain well so heres an example'

says you got a bar, 4/4 time with 1/16 notes:
you want a pattern like this:

PAD1, PAD 1, PAD 1, PAD 2/
PAD1, PAD 1, PAD 1, PAD 3/
PAD1, PAD 1, PAD 1, PAD 4/
PAD1, PAD 2, PAD 3, PAD 2/

set all the duration times to 96 for each of those sounds, then you wont have this problem that you described.

it happens when you over lap the sounds, so look at the 1st 3 beat in the 1st bar, if you let the times run over 96, then the 2nd and 3rd sound wont play, and the 4th one will come in fine.

and if you set the duration time to example. 384+ for the 3rd note in the first bar, then our not goign to hear PAD 1 the whole 2nd bar.

like i said im not that great at explaing, but i think i left enough here for another person to pick up. im sure your problem is just that the duration time is over lapping, and although you may hear the sound fully. their might be silence after it. this is where you gotta use your head and bust out your calcuator, to find where to end your sounds at.

This was the first thing I did. It did'nt work, my samples kept dropping out. I even made them 4 ticks shorter (380 instead of 384) but they still went silent from time to time.

When a 2 bar loop drops out the audience will notice it, for sure.

What is currently the deal with saving effects settings to a song? Is it still as illogical as it was when it was first released with earlier OS's? Can you easily save a song with sample, sequence, and effects data... and then just load it up?

yea, I dont like this either that much, and I REALLY wont when i start performing live.

Yes - "Save all Sequences and Songs" is the way to do it all in one go. The settings are in the .ALL file.
The FX handling hasn't changed from the initial release, and I don't expect it to. Because we only have one FX processor for the whole MPC, we know where the FX settings can't go:
- not in the Program, because we have multiple Programs loaded at once. (All we safely can have there is FX Send level per Pad.)
- not in the Sequence, because we're quickly switching between sequences in real time. Do we want to load a new bank of FX settings into the "active" memory every time?
- That leaves the Song file as the logical place to put it: they are global settings that apply to all Programs and Sequences.
- You can have more than one Song using the same Sequences, without duplication of the Sequences. This is why was have a single .ALL file, and not individual .SONG files. And that's the only logical place left to put the FX settings.
