Organizing my beats!!

So I just got the 1000 a few weeks ago and im lovin it! i figured out how to chop samples and assign them and whatnot...My biggest question is regarding how i should go about organizing beats?? I made a 2 bar drum loop on sequence 1 using 3 tracks (kick, hat, snare) and then i used a 4th track to lay down the intro part of my beat. it sounds exactly how i want. So now i wanna lay down the verse part. What do i do? Make another sequence and copy the drums and just change the pattern? Another thing....whats up with programs? someone told me you dont need more than 1 program if you dont want. or should i do drums on a diff program? anything would help yall!

You can't tailor my answer to what you want.

Make a base main sequence, make copies of that main seq.

Change/Edit each copy.

Chain all of them together in song mode.

Make sure all tracks in each seq have the SAME assignment. if you've made copies of the main seq then this will already be done and in place.

Song mode converts all chained seq's to one sequence and Song Mode will ONLY use track assignments in the FIRST seq in the chain.

Make a different track within the sequence for each sample you add.

this is how i do it

i use 1 program for the hole beat bank a for drums bank b for samples and so on
that way u dont get confused on wat program u used on wat track if u change it by acsdent
or if u make your drums into kits u can use to programs one for bass/ samples ect and other is ur drum kit

i never make more than one seq tbh i just use mute tracks to change up from my intro, main, hook, outro , brake down ect
allways keep ontop of naming ur shit (tracks samples seq programs)

tracks are like this, as a track mute view

bass 1/ bass 2 / midi 1 / midi 2
sampl/ sampl2 /sampl3/ sampl4
perc / hi hats /2ndhat/ toms-cym
kick / 2nd kick / snare / 2nd snare

i do that on every track so if i forget the beat, i still know how to play the mutes..
1-8 drums 9-16 samples + bass as a rough guide.

get organized man, dont really have to label the tracks so long as u use this the above formula, but do label beat folders well! use a number with a name also, wish i did that so i know how many beats ive made..

and obviously label samples, dont skimp on this one so you dont end up with 20 progs all called sample01 and screw your self overtime.

also something else i wish i did but im just too deep to start now..
put a post it or label on records you have sampled, and put them in a seperate box!

and get into song mode!!! you will thank urself later

I do the same thing as Lampdog suggests. It is the best method for me and can be very quick and effective method I found. And you will get used to many programs after a while. I have a dozen programs at least and named them so its easy to identify.

Don't know if it's efficient but in most cases I collect everything in the first sequence, like a new track for each 'idea' I've got Of course muting the first sample track when I do the second one etc. Then I copy that sequence multiple times and just mute out particular tracks if they are not needed.

Having said that, sometimes it creates a big mess. It's nice for laying down some quick ideas but turns out to be horrible when it comes to finding tracks again, going through dozens of muted tracks etc Actually padlock's way to do it seems to be nice!

YO thanks everyone for the tips! they are definitely a big help and I really appreciate the feedback! Lamp..Ive found your method the most effective, but everyones tips and info helped too! my next question is..

.lets say i have my beat and all my sequences are labeled (hook1, hook 2, verse, etc..) and i want to change up the programming for the kick. would i have to go thru each sequence and re-lay the kick drum 5 separate times? or is there a way to copy a track from one sequence to another? bc all i can seem to do is copy tracks within one sequence.

It's possible in sequence edit mode (MODE + PAD13). ~ page 25 in the manual.
