Isnt it possible to chop up samples in the MPC1000?

I read that it wasnt possible to chop up samples on the MPC1K is it true?
i'm going to buy a mpc1k because i want something i can produce beats on, without any computer.

you can........but imo its alot easier chopping up a sample in soundforge and then throwing it on the mpc via usb..

Naw G, you just gotta use long, 8 bar samples for everything on the 1K. Its just a looper, really.

A LOOPER? C'mon, scratch the surface and get creative with limitations. Please don't be another Puffy (no offense intended, but he's the first person that came to mind that can't make a beat and just phrase samples everything). This probably comes across as a flame, and I don't intend it to, but damn.....this thing might not have all the bells and whistles of the 2000xl, but it's a hell of a lot more than just a looper. For that, buy a cheap ass stompbox.....

Ok, as a real answer, Fro-D, yes you can chop till you cannot chop anymore on the mpc1k. You cannot, however "zone" a sample(usually a loop). This zoning feature, available on the 2kxl and the 4k--as far as i know--allows one to--wait....you are on the internet, AND on a mpc forum. Look it up!

How you guys chopping on the 1000? I know you can use the trim but I'm not hip to chopping up a sample like a beat detector. There isn't a function I'm aware of. Let me know somebody. Or am I missing something.

i guess you meen people like me, about the 8 bar loops. but ever thought of people using the mpc to sample what they did themselfe? for live acts or so, that you don't have to take all your gear with you. theres not only sampling off the MK. i didnt read anywhere that this machine was only ment for hiphop kids who don't give a **** whether it can do basic stuff or not.

To Sincere: Yeah, you have to use the trim. All by hand, so to speak. There are no recycle/beat detector type auto slice features on the 1k, nor, as i said, is there zoning. Yeah, sucks, but its not like Akai claimed that it had it or anything.

To Recment: Yeah, the more i think about it the more i wish the 1k didn't have the issue with long samples. I too like to sample stuff I made myself, and its especially tempting with the 1ks ability to sample while playing. And people have been mixing down tracks and importing them into MPCs for live use for a while now, so its not like thats a cop-out or anything.

And for the record(maybe i should be posting this in the bug threads) I haven't noticed the non-triggering of long samples bug on my 1k....yet, at least...

Didn't think of it that way.....but headz DO care about the missing little basics....it's just that hip-hop as a genre is much more built on making music with whatever you HAVE, as opposed to a lot of styles (trance or house, for example) almost REQUIRING you to have a lot more gear....not to knock ANYONE's use of the MPC....use it for whatever music you want, or use it for a doorstop for all I really care. The point I think you're making (I hope) is that it is NOT just a hip hop machine, but capable in many situations, and mixing down for live use isn't a bad usage of it....I just meant I don't wanna see any idiots ripping entire songs and looping 95% of the song and just throwing rhymes over the song. No offense intended at all toward our "forefathers" in this game, but THAT sort of thing went out of style in the early 90s at the latest. Puffy just has enough shiny costumes that Joe Teenager doesn't notice (or know, due to pure ignorance) that the "beats" he makes are actually really classic tracks, with a kick and snare thrown lazily on top. That was MY only point.
