Broken MPC1000, help please!!

Hey guys,

So I picked up an mpc 1000 from ebay with the knowledge that the only problem was that the data wheel did not work with jjos (because you could scroll forward but to scroll back you needed to spin around many times to get it to backtrack 1 notch). That was fine but when I got it there was a much bigger problem. When the data wheel is at a certain point, and you push the buttons for the Q-link, it also turns on the record, and full volume buttons. This problem also exists for some of the f switches, which becomes quite annoying when you are trying to chop and keep losing all of your progress. Yet when I turn the wheel just one notch, all problems are gone. I figured this was the data wheel pot so I copped one from the French mpc store and replaced it. Much do my dismay, the problem persists. If any of you have any fixes or ideas that would be great thanks.

you bought a new rotary encoder, desoldered the original one, and soldered in the new rotary encoder?

it sounds like a short somewhere
take a picture of both sides of your PCB

Yes I did resolder the new one, these pictures are with the new rotary.

first, good for you for having the balls to solder.
i was afraid that you'd just replaced the plastic wheel part...i've seen people do that before.

ok, so try using the board with the mPC cover off, and the two upper left white connectors unplugged (use pliers if you need to.) keep the upper RIGHT one in.

for kicks, also undo the ribbon connector connecting the R OP board to the pads.

then give it a go. see if the same thing happens.

i can't see anything wrong with your circuit board, but i can't tell because the pic is a little blurry. if you have access to a scanner, use that (careful about scratching the glass)

Now the whole right board doesn't work at all when connecting as you described. Will add scanned pics soon

Fixed! turned out to be the tape that connects to lower left side. It wasn't fully connecting. Now works like a charm! thanks!
